A shared commitment to the health and well-being of our community

Jefferson Healthcare has again renewed its commitment to sponsoring the Jefferson County Farmers Market, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! This partnership is more than just a sponsorship – it’s a shared commitment to the health and well-being of our community.

At Jefferson Healthcare, we believe healthy food is essential for a healthy community. That’s why we’re proud to support the Jefferson County Farmers Market, which provides our community with access to fresh, locally-grown produce and other goods. We know that access to healthy food can make a significant difference in our community’s overall health and well-being, and we’re committed to doing our part to make sure that everyone has access to nutritious food.

Our mission at Jefferson Healthcare is to provide exceptional health care to our community, and this mission intersects with the mission of the Jefferson County Farmers Market. By promoting healthy eating and supporting our local economy, we’re helping to create a healthier, more sustainable community. We know our sponsorship helps sustain food access programs like VegRX, a vegetable prescription program. VegRx connects lower income-families with fresh, locally-grown produce. Jefferson Healthcare doctors “prescribe” vegetables to qualifying families during pediatric clinic visits.  This season, VegRx vouchers can be redeemed at the Port Townsend and Chimacum Farmers Market booths starting in June.  This program not only supports healthy eating but also helps to alleviate food insecurity in our community. Currently, the VegRx program targets families with kids; the poverty rate for children under 13 is higher in Jefferson County than the Washington state average.

And the benefits of the Farmers Market go beyond just health and economic benefits. It’s also a vibrant community gathering place where people can socialize, learn about local food and farming, and connect with their neighbors. This sense of community is essential for our overall well-being, and we’re proud to support a space where people can come together to celebrate our local food system.

And for those who miss Chef Arran and his food demonstrations, he and his team will be there throughout the season.  See the Farmers Market calendar of events at jcfmarkets.org.

We believe that this partnership is an essential part of our commitment to promoting health and well-being in our community. By supporting local farmers and producers, promoting healthy eating, and providing a community gathering place, we’re working together to create a healthier, more sustainable, and more connected community. Join us at the season opening of the Port Townsend Farmers Market on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 9:00 am!
