Laboratory Services

Advanced Testing, Timely Results

Laboratory Services provide emergency, hospital, and outpatient laboratory services in a safe, clean, and patient-friendly environment. Once your provider has placed your lab orders, you can visit the lab without an appointment or schedule one through
MyChart.

Online Scheduling for Outpatient Lab

Patients can book lab appointments directly from their computer or smartphone using a new feature on MyChart, a secure online platform that allows patients to access their health records, communicate with their care team, view test results, and now, schedule lab appointments. With a few quick clicks, patients can now choose a time and date for their lab appointment — no phone call or wait time is required.

Appointments are encouraged but not required. To schedule, please have the following information ready:

  • name and phone number
  • insurance information
  • your calendar or schedule
  • doctor referral information

Walk-in Services

Walk-ins are always welcome at the Jefferson Healthcare Outpatient Lab. However, during popular times of day, such as before work or during lunch breaks, you may experience delays. For those with tight schedules, making an appointment offers a streamlined approach.

Strategies to minimize your wait time at the lab

Our outpatient lab is currently serving more patients than ever. Increased volume may result in longer wait times, sometimes exceeding an hour for walk-in services. Here are some strategies to help us assist you as quickly as possible.

  • Make an Appointment via MyChart. Appointments usually have much shorter wait times. Patients with appointments will be given priority over walk-in patients.
  • Avoid Peak Hours. To receive quicker service, consider visiting after 2:00 PM, as mornings and lunchtime tend to be busier.
  • Submitting External Orders. If you have a paper order from a provider outside Jefferson Healthcare, it must be submitted 24 hours before your lab visit. This process allows us to prepare in advance and helps minimize your wait time.

Please use this form to upload a paper lab order from a provider outside of Jefferson Healthcare who cannot send orders electronically or by fax. Submitting your order in advance allows our lab team to review it before your arrival and may reduce wait times.

Enter your name and phone number and upload a clear photo of each page of your order. Make sure all information is easy to read before submitting.

To be processed, the order must include:
• Patient’s full name
• Patient date of birth
• Diagnosis code(s) or reason for testing
• Test(s) requested (name and/or procedure code)
• Ordering provider signature (MD, DO, NP, or PA)
• Date and time the order was written

Accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP)

Our certified team of licensed technicians and phlebotomists provides the highest standard of care in clean, safe facilities and adheres to all safety programs, record-keeping, and quality-control procedures. The Jefferson Healthcare laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments that support a wide range of tests.

Billing and Insurance

When your blood, urine, stool, or similar specimens are tested in the hospital’s laboratory, the testing process is overseen by a Northwest Clinical Pathology Services pathologist. The pathologist may not perform the tests or check the results themselves, but they ensure the lab produces clinically reliable results and that your doctor receives them quickly.

You may receive an additional bill from Northwest Clinical Pathology Services for the pathologist’s supervisory services for each test. You will need to pay this bill if your insurance or managed care plan does not cover it. If you have any questions about your Northwest Clinical Pathology Services bill, please call their patient services department at 206-858-9761.

Quality and patient service

Our laboratory processes specimens and sends the results to the physician, who will follow up with the patient. Some results are available on the same day, while others may take up to a week, depending on the complexity of the testing. Results will also be accessible through MyChart. Please note that our lab team is not permitted to provide or discuss results directly with patients.
