About Us

The Family Birth Center at Jefferson Healthcare offers family-centered birthing suites that provide modern technology in a caring, supportive environment. Families appreciate the individualized attention, private rooms, and experienced labor, delivery, and post-partum nurses.

Services to support all birthing plans:

Low-intervention birth service

We are dedicated to offering exceptional support for low-intervention births. At Jefferson, your birth plan preferences are fully supported by our experienced providers and specially trained nurses. Our rooms are thoughtfully designed and equipped to assist those seeking a birth experience with minimal intervention. Our family birthing suites feature soaking tubs for hydrotherapy and telemetric fetal monitoring, so you can walk and have a high level of mobility during fetal monitoring. We have a wide variety of birthing balls, peanutballs, and birthing bars. The suites include refrigerators, televisions, and large private showers. We offer nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas. When used in labor, the concentration is much lower than in other settings. If you decide to use nitrous oxide, you will be in control of how often you use the gas and will hold your mask.

Support

Your partner or spouse is encouraged to stay with you throughout labor and delivery. Your baby will room in with you, and siblings are always welcome when accompanied by an adult. A midwife or trained doula may be present during labor and for initial transitional support. We offer 24-hour on call obstetric trained providers and 24-hour on call anesthesia support for epidural placement and management.

Planned and unplanned C-section births

There are various reasons why birthing individuals may choose a scheduled C-section. We recommend discussing this option with your provider before your due date, though the decision can also be made at any point during your pregnancy or even during active labor. Once your baby is delivered via C-section, our team will perform a quick vital check. If both you and your baby are stable and you give your consent, we will place your baby directly on your chest for skin-to-skin contact. If you are not stable enough for this or if medical considerations make it difficult, your baby will be placed in a bassinet next to your head so you can see and interact with your newborn.

Childbirth Classes

Free childbirth classes cover early and active labor, comfort measures, pain management, newborn care, early parenthood, and breast/chest feeding.

“She is our first and they helped us in changing her diaper, holding her, feeding her, swaddling her (yes, it’s as hard as it looks!) and eased my worries as a new mom.  It was truly wonderful.”  – Allison, new mom
