Biography

Prior to moving to Port Townsend in 2004, Dr. Dimitri Kuznetsov received extensive training in the field of urology at the University of Chicago, followed by specialized training in female urology with emphasis on incontinence and pelvic floor reconstruction at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.

Urology is a surgical subspecialty that focuses on the genitourinary system. It mandates two years of general surgical education, followed by four years of intense urologic training that focuses on all aspects of urologic care and surgery. Urologists treat a broad and diverse spectrum of genitourinary problems, i.e., cancer of the urinary system (e.g. kidney, bladder, prostrate), urinary incontinence and voiding abnormalities, pelvic organ prolapse, kidney stones, urinary infections, developmental and pediatric anomalies and various other non- life-threatening urologic conditions.

To Dr. Dmitri’s credit, he has authored 18 manuscripts, four book chapters, and has presented on numerous topics pertaining to research and experience in all aspects of Urology. These are valued milestones and accomplishments for a person who spoke no English when he immigrated to the United States at the age of 9 from Minsk, Belarus (a former republic of the Soviet Union). His professional societies, of which he is currently a member, include the American Urological Association, Western Section of American Urological Association, Northwest Urological Society, and Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology. Among many honors and recognitions, high on his list was the invitation to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a recognition reserved for the top 10% of the graduating class from the New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. Dimitri’s motivation to leave the “big city” was driven by the purpose to show his kids the value of close-knit relationships and life in a small community, the rewards of hard work, as well as the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the Olympic Peninsula.

In addition to enjoying his free time with family (wife, Sharon, an occupational therapist, and sons, Sam and Theo), Dr. Dimitri is passionate about fly fishing, sailing, and devotes a significant amount of time towards the betterment of local public schools. He is one of the founding members of a local non-profit organization, the Port Townsend Education Foundation. In his own words, “I enjoy the general good hearts of the people in our community and feel privileged to meet and take care of any urologic needs of Jefferson County.”
