Jefferson Healthcare announces the addition of Dr. Sabrina Prime, MD, MPHS, a board-certified radiation oncologist, to its growing team of cancer care specialists. Dr. Prime will begin seeing patients this fall and will lead Jefferson Healthcare’s new Radiation Oncology Department, located in the newly constructed wing of the hospital opening this summer.
Radiation Oncology for our Critical Access Hospital
Bringing radiation oncology to East Jefferson County is a significant achievement for East Jefferson County and marks the first time these services will be available locally. Until now, patients in need of radiation therapy were required to travel to Poulsbo, Silverdale or Seattle for treatment — and for this reason, many chose to forego care completely. With the arrival of Dr. Prime and new radiation oncology equipment in the hospital’s new building, Jefferson Healthcare is proud to offer high-quality, compassionate radiation care right here at home in Port Townsend.
“This is a tremendous step forward for our patients and our community,” said Jefferson Healthcare Chief Medical Officer Dr. Steve Butterfield. “Radiation oncology is a highly specialized service that is rarely found in rural settings. Our ability to offer it here speaks volumes about the commitment of our community and the exceptional team we’ve built.”
A Community Effort
The expansion of cancer services is the result of a true community partnership. The Jefferson Healthcare Foundation, the hospital’s nonprofit arm, worked alongside local residents and donors to raise over $2 million for the purchase of the linear accelerator — the advanced technology needed to deliver targeted radiation therapy. This outpouring of support has made it possible for patients in East Jefferson County to access comprehensive oncology care, both medical and radiation, close to home.
Our New Provider
Dr. Prime brings outstanding clinical expertise and a passion for rural medicine to her new role. Raised in the small town of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, she is deeply familiar with the value of close-knit communities and personalized care. She completed her medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and trained in radiation oncology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Prime’s work has focused on improving patient outcomes through patient-centered research, shared decision-making, and innovations in cancer care delivery.
