Jefferson Healthcare is making it easier than ever for patients to manage their healthcare needs with a new lab scheduling feature, now available through MyChart.

On a recent episode of Jefferson Healthcare’s To Your Health podcast, Patient Access Manager Damon McCutcheon joined host Maggie McKay to discuss how the ability to schedule labs, such as blood draws, will benefit patients and help reduce wait times for lab work.

What Is MyChart?

MyChart is a secure online platform that allows patients to access their health records, communicate with their care team, view test results, and now, schedule lab appointments.

“MyChart allows you to be interactive in your healthcare experience,” McCutcheon said. “I can log into MyChart using a computer, a tablet, a smartphone… and be able to see future appointments, test results, pay bills, or even set up financial assistance.”

For patients who may feel hesitant about navigating digital tools, McCutcheon offers reassurance. “If I can figure out how to navigate my way through it, anyone can,” he laughed.

Say Goodbye to Long Waits

Traditionally, many patients simply walk in for lab work, having their blood drawn or other lab work completed before work or during lunch breaks. Because so many people sought to access Jefferson Healthcare’s lab during the same times of day, bottlenecks and delays were often inevitable. The new scheduling tool aims to fix that.

“Jefferson Healthcare has opened up a new online scheduling function with MyChart,” McCutcheon explained. “I can go into my MyChart app, see what days and times are available, get that appointment scheduled, and show up for my appointment. I’m given priority in the check-in process. It gets me in, it gets me out — with a much, much smaller wait time than just a standard walk-in.”

Walk-ins are still welcome for lab appointments at Jefferson Healthcare, but for those with tight schedules, this new feature offers a streamlined approach.

Need Help Getting Started?

McCutcheon encourages patients to reach out if they need help setting up or using MyChart. “Patients should be able to stop by any registration desk and have someone help walk them through the process,” he said. “The most important thing is that you do need to have a device — like a smartphone, tablet, or computer — where you can access MyChart.”
