Jefferson Healthcare Participating in the Great Shake Out

At 10:17 am on October 17, 2019 Jefferson Healthcare will join hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians in the Great Washington ShakeOut, the state’s largest earthquake drill ever!  Visitors, patients and employees at Jefferson Healthcare’s main campus will hear an overhead alert announcing the drill at 10:17 am.  Employees will be encouraged to assess their current situation and Drop! Cover! and Hold On! for one minute. Jefferson Healthcare will continue all patient care during the drill and services will not be interrupted.

Following the ShakeOut drill, the Emergency Department will continue with a training exercise to triage a higher than normal intake of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Jefferson Healthcare will partner with community preparations groups to visit the Emergency Department in this mock exercise.  Emergency staff will triage and assess the mock patients to reinforce skills and find opportunities for improvement.

Major earthquakes may happen anywhere or at any time.  The ShakeOut is an opportunity to practice and protect family and loved ones as well as prepare.  The goal is to prevent a major earthquake from becoming a catastrophe for individuals, organizations and our community.

More information about the ShakeOut can be found at  Individuals and organizations are encouraged to register for this event.
