February 1, 2024 East Jefferson County’s healthcare landscape is undergoing a significant transformation as Jefferson Healthcare begins its campus expansion and modernization project aimed at enhancing accessibility and addressing the evolving needs of the community. “In the last decade, we have doubled or in some cases tripled nearly every service that we provide,” said Jefferson Healthcare’s CEO, Mike Glenn in a recent episode of the To Your Health podcast. “As a result, we have outgrown the existing building and facilities.” With healthcare demands surging, Jefferson Healthcare saw an opportunity to take proactive measures to accommodate the ballooning patient need, particularly considering some of the hospital’s buildings reaching the end of their functional life. The result is a new building project, expected to be completed in 2025, that will allow Jefferson Healthcare to expand existing services, including OBGYN, dermatology, and medical oncology, as well as providing additional specialty services to the community. With the new building, Jefferson Healthcare is looking forward to providing several new service lines, making it easier for patients to access specialty services in East Jefferson County. Among the new services that will be available at Jefferson Healthcare is radiation oncology—representing a significant milestone for East Jefferson County. “We have been providing chemotherapy for quite some time,” says Glenn. “However, as many as half of the cancer cases that we see require both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. By providing both on our campus, we will be equipped to truly meet the needs of the communities we serve.” In addition to offering radiation oncology, Jefferson Healthcare’s new service lines will include neurology; pulmonology; ear, nose, and throat; and state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery suites.
