Jefferson Healthcare is in the midst of a campus expansion and modernization project that will increase capacity for several existing services, while also bringing a host of new specialty services to East Jefferson County.

One of the most significant components of the hospital expansion is the addition of radiation oncology, which requires a linear accelerator (LINAC) cancer radiation treatment machine. The Jefferson Healthcare Foundation has taken on the task of raising funding for the LINAC, which comes with a price tag of $2.5 million.

“We have been providing chemotherapy for quite some time,” explains Jefferson Healthcare CEO Mike Glenn. “However, as many as half of the cancer cases that we see require both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. By providing both on our campus, we will be equipped to truly meet the needs of the communities we serve.”

With this grant, the Jefferson Healthcare Foundation has now raised $1,875,815 of the $2.5 million needed to purchase the LINAC, according to the organization’s website.

Carla Caldwell, the Foundation’s executive director, says “This grant will be pivotal in acquiring the state-of-the-art linear accelerator cancer treatment machine, amplifying our critical care hospital’s capacity to deliver cutting-edge care to cancer patients in our community and keeping healthcare local.” She went on to say “This significant investment highlights the joint dedication of both organizations towards advancing healthcare accessibility and addressing treatment needs within our hospital and community.” Caldwell also expressed the Foundation’s “heartfelt appreciation to the Murdock Charitable Trust for their unwavering support in our mission to enhance the lives of those fighting cancer.”

CEO Mike Glenn added “We are deeply appreciative of the Murdock Trust’s belief and continued investment in our community and our team.”
