Jefferson Healthcare is slated to receive $2 million in federal funding for its Rural Seniors Project. Secured with support from Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell, and Representative Derek Kilmer, these funds will contribute to Jefferson Healthcare’s ongoing efforts to expand and modernize its facilities, ensuring enhanced healthcare access for East Jefferson County residents.
Addressing Critical Community Needs
Jefferson Healthcare is currently undertaking a $96 million Campus Expansion and Modernization Project. This project includes the construction of a new building aimed at increasing the capacity of existing services while introducing several new specialty services. The expansion project is expected to be completed in summer 2025.
“Providing high-quality health care in rural communities is a critical need in Washington State,” said Mike Glenn, CEO of Jefferson Healthcare. “Jefferson Healthcare is grateful to Representative Kilmer for supporting the Expanding Healthcare for the Rural Seniors Project, which will allow East Jefferson County seniors to access vital medical care including neurology; pulmonology; and ear, nose, and throat services. With seniors making up over one-third of our community, and a significant number having to travel over an hour to seek these health care services, Jefferson Healthcare is excited to be able to offer these specialties and support the overall health of our population.”
Additional Funding Sources
The Campus Expansion and Modernization Project is leveraging several funding sources. Jefferson Healthcare’s request to the Federal Government for $2 million for the Rural Seniors Project was fully funded.
Jefferson Healthcare previously received $2.5 million in a federal appropriation from 2023. These funds will go toward the Jefferson Cancer Treatment Project, which will help pay for a linear accelerator machine. Along with these funds, the Jefferson Healthcare Foundation is three-quarters of the way to raising an additional $2.5 million that will bring radiation oncology services to the Olympic Peninsula.
In addition to Federal funds and the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, Jefferson Healthcare received $4 million from Washington state to expand its OB/GYN health clinic.
CEO Mike Glenn underscored the impact of Jefferson Healthcare’s advocacy work, saying, “These efforts have combined to make our campus expansion and modernization project cost $11 million less for Jefferson County residents.”
