Comprehensive Oncology Care at Jefferson Healthcare: What It Means for Our Community
January 6, 2026

Oncologist Dr. Jason Suh joined the To Your Health podcast to share about Jefferson Healthcare’s comprehensive cancer care services. He also provides insight on the latest advancements in cancer treatment and what patients can expect during their care journey.
Jefferson Healthcare continues to strengthen cancer care for East Jefferson County patients with the addition of Dr. Jason Suh, MD, a medical oncologist with nearly 30 years of experience. Dr. Suh brings deep expertise in oncology and hematology, along with a philosophy of care rooted in compassion, honesty, and quality of life.
His arrival comes at a pivotal moment, as Jefferson Healthcare has expanded its oncology services in the new Castle View Wing, which now includes radiation oncology alongside medical oncology — allowing many patients to receive comprehensive cancer care close to home.
Dr. Suh recently joined Jefferson Healthcare’s To Your Health podcast to tell us more about what comprehensive oncology care means for East Jefferson County.
Comprehensive Cancer Care Close to Home
For years, many Jefferson County patients needing radiation therapy had to travel long distances, often several days a week, to Silverdale or Seattle. Due to the burden of this travel while undergoing exhausting treatments, some even elected to forego care. That burden has now been lifted.
“Most cancers cannot be cured with chemotherapy alone or radiation alone,” said Dr. Suh. “We often need to use both together. When chemotherapy and radiation are coordinated, treatment becomes much more effective.”
With radiation oncology now available in Port Townsend, patients can see their medical oncologist and radiation oncology team in one location. “My patients see me in my office, and the radiation clinic is in the next building,” Dr. Suh explained. “We coordinate easily, and they’re getting the best care without long delays or difficult travel.”
Personalized Care
Dr. Suh treats patients with cancer as well as those with blood disorders such as anemia, clotting issues, and bone marrow diseases. His background includes training in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation, giving him a broad perspective that benefits patients across many conditions.
Working in a community with a large retirement population has shaped his approach. Dr. Suh emphasizes careful decision-making, especially for older adults. He regularly discusses whether a treatment will truly help a patient live better, not just longer.
“What’s most important is quality of living,” Dr. Suh said. “There is no point in extending life if a patient cannot function well or enjoy it.”
Innovation is Changing Cancer Treatment
One of the most meaningful advances in oncology today is the move toward precision medicine. Genetic testing now allows oncologists to tailor treatment to each patient’s specific cancer.
“Nowadays, I do complete gene testing on the cancer for every patient,” said Dr. Suh. “We can identify the mutations that caused the cancer and target them directly.”
These advances have dramatically reduced side effects for many patients. New therapies, such as antibody-drug conjugates, deliver chemotherapy directly to cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. “This technology allows patients to stay on treatment longer with far fewer side effects,” Dr. Suh said. “It’s a major improvement in how we care for people.”
Compassion at Every Stage of Care
Throughout his work, Dr. Suh prioritizes honest conversations and individualized care, including thoughtful guidance at the end of life when cure is no longer possible.
“My goal is always to decrease suffering and truly serve the patient,” he said. “I treat my patients like friends and family.”
