We all know how important a well-balanced diet is to our health and wellbeing. Home-cooked meals are one of the most effective ways of ensuring you’re getting what you need out of every meal. In fact, one study found that those who regularly cook dinner at home consume less sugar, fat, and calories than people who don’t.

But most of us find it all too easy to fall into bad habits. Whether they end up ordering takeout or snacking, there are many reasons why people fail to cook well-balanced meals. For some, it takes too much time. For others, the effort and pile of dirty dishes that looms after cooking feels insurmountable at the end of the day.

“Batch & Freeze” Cooking Demonstration

If you want to cook more at home, Chef Arran Stark would like you to know there’s hope. “You can cook a healthy meal — cook a lot of it — and save the rest for later in the week,” says the Jefferson Healthcare chef. “That way, you only need to dedicate one day to cooking and cleaning up, but you reap the benefits all week long.”

Stark likes to call this process “batch and freeze” cooking, and he’ll demonstrate how to prepare one of his favorite recipes, quinoa and sprouted lentil salad, while also teaching participants how to properly store their leftovers.
