Rewarding careers at Jefferson Healthcare

We are seeking employees to join our teams in our primary care clinics and all hospital areas.  Read our story about the day of a medical receptionist in our series Behind the Mask.

Behind the mask of the call center and patient registration

I work in the primary care call center and primary care patient registration. On the days I work in the call center, I talk to patients all day.  I must be an ‘investigator’ and ask patients the right questions to help them.  Maybe they need a follow-up appointment before another appointment can be scheduled, or if they need a refill, I need to check that the request for their refill hasn’t already been requested by the pharmacy.  In registration, I check in patients for their appointments and communicate closely with doctors, nurses, MAs, and clinical support.  I help patients with their appointment forms, send medical questions to clinical support or a nurse and answer other patient questions.  I enjoy helping patients.

My teammates are always there to help. If they see me busy with two or three patients waiting with questions, sometimes I don’t even need to ask for help; they jump in and help right away. It is a joy to be around my coworkers! I’m happy and blessed that we get along well.

Read MoreHelping patients is the best part of my day. Sometimes patients call with pain and frustration; they are confused and don’t know what to do. When I don’t have the answer, I send messages to people with the answers — I know the right person to ask. In the case of medical questions, it’s the doctors, nurses, and MAs. We are here to help. On the phone, I can “see” when someone smiles at me; before they hang up, they are happier, and they smile. It’s a good feeling knowing that you helped somebody.

I love what I do. I always advise friends to work for health care because, number one, we always learn — we never, ever stop learning. And at Jefferson Healthcare, we always have the opportunity to grow in our careers.
