This class series is specifically designed for individuals with diabetes who are newly diagnosed or for those needing a refresher in diabetic care.  Each series is four parts.  A provider referral is needed.

  • Class 1: Understanding physiology of diabetes, blood sugar monitoring: high and low blood sugar, making lifestyle changes, sick-day guidelines and introduction to healthy eating
  • Class 2: Being active, a way of life; prevention, detection and treating complications of diabetes, understanding diabetes medications
  • Class 3: Healthy eating, tips for eating out, understanding dietary fats, lowering the risk for heart disease and stroke; emotional wellness: strategies for healthy coping
  • Class 4: 3-month follow-up; lifestyle check-up
