Pulmonary rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary program that offers monitored exercise, testing, therapy, emotional support, and education to increase functional capacity and decrease complications of lung disease.
Pulmonary Rehab is recommended for those with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Chronic bronchitis, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, lung surgery, and other pulmonary conditions. You will achieve and maintain your highest possible level of independence and self management, as well as prevention of complications.
- Participants meet with the Pulmonary Rehab case manager for evaluation, goal-setting, and exercise training.
- Pulmonary Rehab participants then attend a twelve-week program of supervised exercise and education three times a week (36 sessions total). Education includes breathing techniques, energy conservation strategies, medication management, daily living skills, pulmonary hygiene, self-assessment, infection control, environmental issues, as well as coping and self-management skills.
- Graduates of Pulmonary Rehab show improved exercise duration and intensity, decreased shortness of breath with activities, and receive a personalized health care plan and exercise prescription.
